MacDonald To Premier: Support Sydney Harbour Dredging Before It's Too Late
(Halifax, NS) Cape Breton South Liberal MLA Manning MacDonald says Premier Darrell Dexter needs to pledge his government’s support for the dredging of Sydney Harbour before the project’s preferred bidder is forced to pull out.“There’s a deadline looming tomorrow and the NDP government has a responsibility to make sure the dredging of Sydney Harbour stays on track,” says MacDonald. “If Premier Dexter fails to act, an important economic opportunity and potential jobs for Cape Breton Island could be lost.”
MacDonald believes this project is vital to the economic development of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, given that the harbour could eventually produce 6,500 more jobs for the area and generate millions of dollars in revenue.
“Hand-wringing on the part of this government will deal a serious blow to Cape Breton,” MacDonald states.
“There are Cape Breton members of this NDP government, including the Deputy Premier, who need to stand up for the Island, this project and the jobs it will bring to our harbour.”
