Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Takes a Shot at NDP Over Issue of New Jails

Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Stephen McNeil is taking a shot at the NDPgovernment over the issue of new jails.

McNeil was in Antigonish on Thursday to lend his support to candidate Miles Tompkins for the upcoming provincial by-election.

McNeil says people have a chance to send a message about politicians who say one thing during a campaign, and do another once they're elected.

He says the failure to honour the previous government's commitment to build a new jail in Antigonish is just one example of the NDP playing politics at the expense of the riding.

In their first budget this fall, the NDP halted plans for new jails in Cumberland County and Antigonish.

Justice Minister Ross Landry says the province is waiting for a business case to be developed to determine whether one or two jails are needed right now.
