McNeil: Own Up to the Facts - This Deficit is Mostly NDP-generated
Governing is about making choices. And in tough economic times, governing is about making tough choices.
That is why I am so disappointed with the budget tabled by this New Democratic government. In spite of what this government says, this budget is their budget. The majority of the deficit is their deficit. And their decisions are adding to the provincial debt.
First of all, let’s look at the $590-million dollar deficit. More than $353 million is being paid to universities, in advance, for a bill that is not due until April 1 of next year.
This decision will cost Nova Scotians millions in unnecessary interest and debt servicing charges.
